Where would I like to work?

When I began my degree, I had all these big ideas of working on sets for massive blockbuster films, and had I been asked this question I would say Warner Bros, HBO or Disney. Whilst I'm still hopeful that I will get to experience working on a movie, in the future. I have found in the past few months that there are other avenues of work I'm quite interested in. Areas that don't follow the traditional route of set design, one such company is Decordia.

Decordia is a creative company with workers having backgrounds of developing there skills in theatre, prop design, film and TV. Their primary focus is creating bespoke scenic pieces that contribute to an overall cohesive design, creating the atmosphere for a conceptional event or company.

They started out in 2009 working on a single festival, and have since built themselves up into a reliable and well-known company. More recently they have worked with Parklife, Neighbourhood, Truck Festival, Transition and Board Masters. They’ve also branched out from festivals now working on set design for immersive entertainment such as the indoor mini golf franchise ‘Junk Yard Golf’. As well as Crystal Maze in Manchester and the Aztec Zone.

I think what really intrigued me to Decordia is the fact I've seen and even admired there designs in person wondering who was behind them. Just last year I attended Parklife and walked around the scenic pieces, looked up at the stage setting and construction. Never would I have imagined that the people behind it all, completed a course equivalent to my own.

I may not know where I'm going to end up working or aspiring to in the future, but for now I would love to get a better understanding of what working at Decordia would really be like. I am hopeful of the possibilities of receiving a 2nd placement here, now that mine has been cancelled due to Covid19.
